【明报专讯】2020 was a difficult year, but it brought commercial prospects to some streaming companies. As more people tend to watch TV shows and movies at home, some streaming giants continue to build their businesses. Take a look at how vibrant the industry is!

◆Can you name some major streaming companies?

Netflix, Disney+, WarnerMedia, Discovery, Apple TV+ etc. Are you currently subscribed to any of them? (picture 1)

◆How many paid members are there on Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max worldwide?

Netflix added a record 37 million paid subscribers in 2020. Disney+ is still expanding its business, but the latest figure showed that Disney+ had already accumulated 94.9 million members. HBO and HBO Max recorded 41.5 million subscribers as well. (picture 2)

◆How much money did Netflix make in 2020?

25 billion USD in 2020. Do you have an idea of how vast the sum of money is? 25 billion USD is equivalent to the GDP of Iceland. (picture 3)

◆How popular are Netflix shows?

Among the 10 most searched TV shows globally in 2020, Netflix series accounted for 9 of them, despite the fact that there are incalculable streaming platforms to choose from. The top searched TV show was Tiger King, a crime documentary. (see table)
