Coleman Wong Chak Lam (黄泽林), a 20-year-old tennis player from Hong Kong, has made history with his remarkable achievements. He first picked up a racket at the age of five. Starting at 12, he gained recognition by winning boys' doubles titles at the 2021 US Open and 2022 Australian Open, two of the world's most prestigious events.
After turning professional, Coleman made history in 2023 by becoming the first male player from Hong Kong to win a professional tennis tournament, securing his first championship at an International Tennis Federation (ITF) M15 event. These M15 tournaments help rising players progress in their careers. In 2024, Coleman achieved a career-high world ranking of 128, the highest ever for a male player from Hong Kong. On Sunday, he defeated 13th-seeded Ben Shelton and reached the third round of Miami Open.
Since tennis is not widely played in Hong Kong, Coleman trains abroad to pursue his dreams. Through hard work and family support, he has proven that players from Hong Kong can succeed on the global stage.
