AI technologies are now used in Chinese medicine to improve diagnostics and treatment planning.





【明报专讯】The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong is located at Pak Shing Kok in Tseung Kwan O and will only provide outpatient services and day-patient services in the first year.

The hospital will provide traditional Chinese medical treatments to patients, such as consultation, acupuncture (针灸) ,cupping (拔罐) and tui-na (??u拿). Accident and emergency services will not be available at the hospital.

Currently, three local universities, namely HKU, CUHK, and HKBU, offer Chinese medicine programs. The hospital has signed collaboration agreements with the universities to provide clinical placements and training opportunities for future Chinese medicine practitioners as a teaching hospital.

What is Chinese medicine?

In traditional Chinese medicine, four diagnostic methods are used to assess a patient's condition: (See the table)

Chinese medicine is a traditional system of medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years in China and other parts of Asia. It is based on the concept of balance and harmony within the body, where health is seen as a state of balance between the opposing forces of yin (阴) and yang (阳).

Although Chinese medicine has a long history that can trace back to two thousand years ago, there is a critique that the practices may not be supported by scientific evidence compared to modern Western medicine. However, in recent decades, the research and practice of Chinese medicine have increasingly adopted an evidence-based approach, earning broader acceptance around the world.
