VR technology is now used by galleries and museums to create immersive experiences for the visitors.
【明报专讯】A tertiary institution in Hong Kong has developed virtual reality (VR) software for elderly individuals with disabilities. The elderly residents wear VR glasses to explore tourist attractions like Ngong Ping 360 and Choi Hung Estate. The team has discovered that this technology helps improve the mental health of the elderly and alleviate symptoms of depression.
Bill: VR technology adds colours to the lives of these elderly individuals, turning their once impossible dreams into reality. This reminds me of the surge in VR travel during the pandemic. It allowed people to travel anywhere from the comfort of their homes.
Pat: But I'm sure everyone would prefer real travel to fully enjoy things like local foods and hands-on experiences of the culture.
Bill: Absolutely. However, I believe VR technology can provide a low-cost and unique learning experience in our studies. For instance, my teacher has made use of VR technology to introduce different types of landscapes to us, making our learning more memorable. ●
What is VR?
Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment that simulates a physical presence in either the real world or an imagined world, allowing users to interact with that environment. VR typically involves the use of a head-mounted display or goggles that provide a three-dimensional, immersive experience. Users can often move around and interact with virtual objects or characters in a seemingly real way.
Application of VR
VR technology has applications in various fields, including entertainment, gaming, education, healthcare, training, and simulation. For example, VR is used for medical students to practice surgeries in a safe and controlled environment.
Additionally, VR can be utilized for physical and psychological therapy.
