【明报专讯】Do you love stories about pirate adventures, Viking history or medieval knights? There are special days around the globe which bring these warrior themes to life.

The United States - Talk Like a Pirate Day

Talk Like a Pirate Day is an informal celebration held on 19th September, originating in the United States. Established in 1995 by two fans of pirate tales, this day invites people to speak in pirate-themed language, using phrases like "Ahoy, matey!" On this special day, participants often dress in pirate costumes and take part in pirate-themed games and treasure hunts. Nowadays, people also celebrate this lighthearted event online by chatting like pirates.

Scotland - Up Helly Aa

Up Helly Aa is a traditional fire festival held on the last Tuesday of January in Scotland. The name, from a dialect of Scots, means 'Up Holy Day'. Established in 1881, it celebrates Viking heritage and marks the end of the winter holiday season. The festival features a torch-lit parade and the burning of a Viking longship, with participants in Viking costumes. Over the years, Up Helly Aa has become a major event, known for its lively and culturally rich celebrations.

Germany - The Medieval Fantasy Spectaculum

The Medieval Fantasy Spectaculum is a prominent medieval-themed festival held across Germany during the summer and early autumn. Established in 1994, the festival combines historical reenactments with imaginative fantasy elements. It features mythical creatures like dragons and characters such as wizards and fairies. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including wearing costumes, participating in mock battles and watching thrilling performances where knights on horseback compete in simulated combat.
